Facebook went down for some users Thursday, but appears to be back up and running for others. The website “Is it Down Right Now?” lists Facebook as having “service disruptions.”

Visitors to Facebook.com were greeted by the message, “Sorry, something went wrong” instead of the usual Facebook homepage when visiting on the web, starting at about 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. Facebook’s mobile apps didn’t appear to be affected.

IDG Contributor Network: Tidemark goes verticals, machine learning and benchmarking

Tidemark delivers enterprise performance management (EPM) software. What that esoteric acronym means is that Tidemark helps organizations take internal data they already have and use it to plan the future steps they will take, but also to assess the historical performance of their organization. Tidemark was founded only a few short years ago (in 2009, to be precise) but has already raised close to $ 120 million from a host of investors over multiple rounds. Tidemark is a good example of a new breed of cloud vendor, those that were born into a world already comfortable with cloud-based enterprise tools such as Salesforce and NetSuite. Because of this fact, Tidemark hasn’t had to invent a category; rather it has the somewhat easier job of delivering an existing product category but in new and beneficial ways.

Raspberry Pi’s official 7″ touchscreen display goes on sale today for $60

RaspBerry Pi Touch Display

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has launched an all-new piece of hardware today — the official Raspberry Pi touchscreen display is now on sale online for $ 60, and through a handful of bricks-and-mortar retailers.

Today’s launch comes almost a year after the organization first teased the device, though it has been delayed somewhat, with initial estimations suggesting it would launch late last year or by early 2015.

The 7″ unit sports a 800 x 480 display, and is designed to work in conjunction with the $ 35 RaspBerry Pi mini computer, and will essentially let users build their own tablets and other similar devices that rely on screens to be used.

Users connect their Pi to the display throug two main conduits —  it’s powered from the Pi’s GPIO port, while a ribbon cable connects to the DSI port. The Foundation says touchscreen drivers will be rolled out alongside an update to the Raspbian operating system, enabling 10-finger touch and an on-screen keyboard.

For the uninitiated, the Raspberry Pi was created as an easy entry point for budding programmers, though it was also pitched as an affordable means of “hacking” new technologies in emerging markets.

The device has come a long way since launch back in 2012 — while it only supported a handful of operating systems initially, including Linux, a processor upgrade in the Raspberry Pi 2, which launched back in February, allowed it to support Windows too. This significantly broadened the horizons of the credit card-sized contraption, transforming it into a machine capable of many of the same things of a normal PC.

Available in six different colors, the Raspberry Pi display opens a new world of possibilities to budding developers. While they’ve always been able to hook up a Raspberry Pi to an external monitor, the launch of a pre-made screen (though a little assembly is required), built specifically for the mini computer, makes things a whole lot easier.
